In February and March of this year, Mary Morgan Elementary School second graders held a food drive for Byron Schools Food Pantry. Mrs. Hull’s second grade class, pictured here, were participants.

The Byron Schools Food Pantry has been the lucky recipient of three separate food drives in February and March of this year.

In February, Cora Physical Therapy and Holcomb Bank both held food drives. Customers and clients donated to the pantry’s white food bins. The bins have been rotating around Byron businesses for a few years, but these two businesses especially bring in a lot of non-perishables and other supplies on a regular basis.

Also in February and March, Mary Morgan Elementary School second graders held a grade-wide food drive. The second graders, taught by Rebecca Hull, Rebecca King, Ashley Stickler, Joslynn Lindsay, and Annie Burke, organized and collected thousands of items for the food pantry. To end the drive, the second graders hand-delivered all the non-perishables and received a tour of the food pantry.

Susan Freyer, Caryn Hoover and Niki Yerly began the Byron Schools Food Pantry in July of 2018 and have seen so many efforts like these to help Byron School District families in need. The Byron Schools Food Pantry is intended for Byron students and their families who are experiencing hardships and food insecurities, with 100% of all donations going to the students and their families.

If interested in making a monetary donation, they can be mailed to: BHS Food Pantry, 696 N. Colfax St., Byron, IL 61010. Collection bins for food and hygiene supplies are located in each of the schools’ offices and several other locations throughout Byron.
