CHICAGO – Running up 94 flights of stairs in one of the nation’s tallest buildings may not be everyone’s idea of a relaxing Sunday afternoon, but 28 people from NorthPointe Wellness in Roscoe recently completed the Hustle Up the Hancock in Chicago for the sixth year.

The event, held on Feb. 28, is a fundraiser for the Respiratory Health Association. With 4,000 people participating in the climb, it is one of the largest in the country.

This year Team NorthPointe placed 14th out of 142 teams to take on the 1,632 stairs at the John Hancock building.

The team was made up of climbers from ages 18 to 69 and everyone completed the climb. This year NorthPointe’s team had a mother and son, a teacher, a librarian and a firefighter, just to name a few.

“We all trained hard and gave it our best shot and it showed,” said Nesa Anderson of Rockton who was climbing for her 6th year in a row. Nesa is an inspiration because at the age of 69 she finished the climb with a time of 19:44 placing her 219th out of 1483 women.

Nesa and her fellow team members worked with the personal trainers at NorthPointe Wellness for eight weeks prior to the event. The quickest member of Team NorthPointe this year was Trainer Chase Shott with a time of 15:16, which put Chase finishing 86thout of all 1,576 men to take on the stairs!

There were several first time climbers and veterans alike on the team. “I am so proud of our team and all the hard work they put in. It is an honor to be a part of such a great group!” says Michelle Marella, Captain of Team NorthPointe.

“I am also thankful for all the last minute subs. We had several team members unable to participate due to injuries ranging from a broken foot to a fractured rib. It was awesome to have others step in and step up to help Team NorthPointe take on the challenge. Every sub did an awesome job and some had not even trained for one day!”

This event is very well organized with a wide variety of teams and abilities. “We all enjoy the bus ride down, the excitement of the day, the anticipation of our climb, and the satisfaction of knowing that we did it. It is truly an adventure for the “bucket list”,” says Michelle Marella.
