Trustees Approve Zoning Change for Land on Willowbrook Road
By Jean Seegers, REPORTER
Roscoe Village Trustees voted unanimously to approve the Zoning Map Amendment for 19 acres of land owned by the Village of Roscoe. The property is located at Willowbrook Road, next to All World Machinery Supply. Formerly a Light Industrial District, the zoning is now a Highway Commercial District. Trustees completed the final step in the transaction at the Dec. 6, full Board Meeting.
The 19-acre property was purchased by Camping World for the sum of $450,000. The company is the number one retailer of new and used RV’s and camping equipment and provides repairs and services. Camping World headquarters is in Bowling Green, Ky. There are 120 locations throughout the United States. This year is the 50th Anniversary of the company.
In other business: Village Administrator Pat De Grave made a recommendation to the Board to enter into an agreement with The Illinois Municipal Insurance Cooperative, joining Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services, Inc., Illinois Municipal Insurance Corp, BCS Insurance Co. and the Illinois Public Risk fund for Village insurance coverage, including general liability, cyber liability, property employment practices and Workmen’s Compensation insurance. Trustee Carol Gustafson and President Dave Krienke thanked De Grave for saving the Village $14,440 a year in insurance costs.
De Grave announced that a new Village website should be going live the middle of December. Trustee Kevin Muradian cautioned the Board that this is a repeat of what has happened in the past. “This is where we were a few years ago. Now that the website is up and running, we need someone to create content,” he said.
The priorities to making repairs to the Police Department were brought up during the Committee of the Whole meeting following the general meeting. De Grave suggested replacing the sewer system and repairing or replacing the steel door as the first priority. “We had a roof leak from the snow a few days ago and that needs to be repaired right away,” De Grave said. Trustee Gustafson, who lobbied for building a new facility, said she does not support repairs that could cost taxpayers millions of dollars. “It makes no sense. There is no sprinkler system in the building. The electrical and mechanical systems are out of date, and there is no handicap accessibility in the bathrooms,” she said. “We could have the bulk of the money in cash in a year and a half,” Trustee Stacy Mallicoat said. He said an estimated one half million could come from gambling and another million would be available in Village reserves. De Graves agreed that about $2 million could be pulled together without borrowing a large amount of money. Trustee Rob Baxter suggested bringing the issue up for another vote on the next full Board meeting, Dec. 20. Trustees were unwilling to vote at Tuesday’s meeting because Trustee Lindsey Swanson was not present.
A motion was made to ask the Fehr Graham Engineering firm to provide a bid to repair the steel door, sewer work and the roof. The bid will be announced at the next meeting. Trustees voted to proceed with advertising for the position of Village Administrator. Pat De Grave, the current Administrator has resigned and will be leaving at the end of the year.
The next full Village meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Committee of the Whole meeting.
