Pam Stock of the Boone County Conservation District came out early on Tuesday, March 20 to speak to the Women’s Business Breakfast Network. Guests enjoyed a delicious hot breakfast at the First National Bank, 1725 S. State St. for the event.
Stock came well prepared for her discussion with a video presentation and handouts.
She included information about the plants, whether they were native or imported, how Native Americans and settlers used them, which pollinators the plants attract, when they bloom, and which conservation area in Boone County holds the various plants.
“Some plants and flowers are endangered. Some of them are being brought back in Boone County,” Stock said. “Spencer Park has a Prairie Habitat area planted by the Camp kids and restoration volunteers. The Flora Conservation Area is a gem. Roger Gustafson recognized it as a remnant Prairie Habitat and purchased it to preserve it within the conservation district.
“We have activities and events all year long.”
