The Belvidere High School girls’ softball teams will compete against Freeport at 5 p.m. at Read Park at 1122 S. Burchard Ave. The varsity team will compete at Freeport High School.
The Rio’s are hosting their annual fundraiser garages sale at 1700 Candlewick Drive. Proceeds will go to the Make a Wish Foundation and The Veteran’s Assistance Commission of Boone County. Call (815) 765-1713 for more information.

Belvidere North varsity girls’ softball team will compete against East at 5 p.m. at Belvidere North.
Sgt. P’s Lapghans for Veterans will present lapghans for veterans that reside at Heritage Woods at 10 a.m. The VFW color guard will be there at 10:30 a.m. The event is in celebration of Armed Forces Day.
The Women’s Garden Club of Boone County will hold its annual plant sale on the grounds of the Boone County Historical Museum, located at 311 Whitney in Belvidere from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Member grown perennials, annuals, houseplants, vegetables and herbs will be available. Proceeds of the sale are used to fund scholar ships for seniors from the three local high schools.
First United Methodist Church will host a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The Girl Scouts will be hosting a cleanup service project at Big Thunder Park from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. This event will also feature early registration for next school year. If your child would like to be a part of the Girl Scouts, come out to Big Thunder Park between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The Boone County Gardeners of America will host their annual cocoa mulch sale from 8 a.m. to noon at the Boone County Gardener’s Building facing Route 76 at the Fairgrounds.
Hunter United Methodist Church, located at 3315 Hunter Road in Caledonia, will host a roast pork and dressing dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale at 3 p.m. for $11 for adults and for carry out. Children aged six to 10 are $6. The dinner includes a serving of roast pork dressing, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, salad, rolls, relishes, fresh fruits, pies, cakes, ice tea and coffee. Truman’s Ridge Chicago-Style Bluegrass Band will be the summer opener for the Concerts on the Creek series at Spring Creek UCC, located at 4500 Spring Creek Road in Rockford. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
The Moose Lodge #295, located at 545 Beloit Road in Belvidere, will host a Sock Hop doors open at 5 p.m. The dance will begin at 8 p.m. The evening will consist of twist limbo, contest, prizes, raffle baskets, and much more fun. Plus, the dance will feature music and entertainment from Matt “Elvis” Ragano. The Sock Hop is open to the public. Tickets are $15 at the door. Tickets are available at the Moose Lodge. The Village of Poplar Grove Dedication Ceremony at Veteran’s Memorial Park Pavilion will be held at noon on the corner of State and Main Streets. Light refreshments will be available and the public is welcome to attend the event.
Sunday, May 22
The Lawrenceville Cemetery Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. rain or shine. Speaker Rev. Monty Fox, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, will be the guest speaker for the event. Garden Prairie Grasshoppers/Sweet Glove 4-H Club will place flowers and flags on veteran’s graves. The public invited and there will be plenty of seating available. Capron United Methodist Church, located at the corner of 6th St. and North St. will have Neighbors Night with games, food available for purchase, and music by the Band Rocking Horse and more. Neighbors Night has free admission and is handicap accessible.
