BLOOMINGTON – The Win Bur Sew Fire Protection District, which covers the great Winnebago, IL area for fire and medical response, was honored at a State wide banquet by the US Department of Defense and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve for their support to area service personal who serve in the National Guard or the US Military Reserves. The Fire District was nominated by US Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel and Fire Chief Robert Martin. The Fire District was awarded the Patriot award earlier in 2015 and because of the outstanding support to the Guard and Reserves, the Fire District also received the “Above and Beyond” higher award.

“I have been deployed 4 times in the past few years and the board and firefighters have been outstanding in their support to me and my family,” Chief Martin said.

The fire district board members and Chief Martin were honored by Major General Daniel Ammerman, Commanding General of US Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations with the presentation of the “Above and Beyond” plaque. The event recognized approximately 30 different employers for their dedicated and loyal support to for the Guard and the Reserves.

“This was a wonderful event, and we are honored to receive this award from the folks at the ESGR and DOD, we value the staff that we have that are active or retired from the Guard and Reserve, they bring special leadership skills and training to the workforce,” Board President Guy Cunningham said.
