WINNEBAGO – The Winnebago boy’s basketball team came through last week in flying colors after defeating the Rockford Lutheran Crusaders on Tuesday and then the Byron Tigers in play last week.
On Tuesday, Dec. 8, the team fought off Lutheran’s crusade after building a 17-point early lead and then eeked out a two-point victory in a nail biter.
Then on Friday, Dec. 11, the Indians took on the Byron Tigers at home, pitting the No. 2 team versus the No. 7 team in state rankings.
Winnebago had no problem dispensing the Tigers on this night by a final score of 76-51. Andrew Morrissey led the way with 13 points, followed by Dan Rosensteel with 12 and Ty Waller and Brandon Suggs with 10 points.
The Indians were never challenged in the game as they outscored Byron in every quarter.
The Indians will continue on course in the Forreston Holiday Tournament, followed by the Chuck Dayton Tournament in DeKalb over Christmas.
It will be interesting to see how the Winnebago boy’s team finishes the year.
