SEWARD – The Winnebago Chamber of Commerce held their yearly awards night on Thursday, March 10, at the Seward Community Center in Seward. After a scrumptious dinner catered by Sullivan’s of Winnebago, Board President Elizabeth Johnson-Lovett introduced the featured speaker and then attendees listened to a speech by Illinois Sate Representative Brian Stewart. The theme for the awards diner was “Making a Difference”. Mr. Stewart spoke of how people can make a difference in the communities they live.

Mr. Stewart’s speech was briefly interrupted at the start when a tiny little mouse decided to make an appearance, running out from beneath the stage to under the podium. One of the organizers of the event eventually corralled the little critter, and Mr. Stewart continued his speech.

Board President Elizabeth Johnson-Lovett then recognized past award winners and then introduced the 2015 nominees for citizen and business of the year.

Diane Capriola, Jenny Lingren, Jim Sacia and Delbert and Phyllis Tedrick were the nominees for Citizen of the Year. Anna’s Pizza and Pasta, Subway Restaurant of Winnebago, Burst of Son and NITE Equipment were the nominees for Business of the Year.

Before announcing this years winners, the list of past winners of each award was read. by Board President Elizabeth Johnson-Lovett.

Winner of the Citizen of the Year Award was Delbert and Phyllis Tedrick. The couple has been involved in so many things over the years. Past Citizen of the year winners were Ron Huggins 2015, Judie Coots 2014, Faye Reed 2013, Warren Cunningham 2012, Irv Koning 2011, Kris Steinwand 2010, Brian Weavil 2009, Guy Cunningham 2008, Mary Gross 2007, Charles Van Sicle 2006, Dennis and Diane Owens 2005, Laren Gambrel 2005, Sally Jo Huggins 2004, Larry Bolhous 2004, John Weeda 2003, Mary Kissack 2003 and Rita Mitchell 2002.

Anna’s Pizza and Pasts became a two-time winner of Business of the Year when they were announced. Owner Brain Weavil was on hand to accept the award. Anna’s also took home the award in 2009.

Past Business of the Year award winners are German American State Bank of Winnebago 2015, Culver’s of Winnebago 2014, Sullivan’s Foods 2013, Cunningham Construction, Inc 2012, Culver’s of Winnebago 2011, First National Bank and Trust 2010 and Anna’s Pizza and Pasta 2009.

Closing remarks then took place and winners of the raffle baskets and 50/50 drawing were then announced.
