Winnovation Robotics team to hold Open House
The local FIRST Robotics team, Winnovation, comprised of students from Winnebago High School and Pecatonica High School, is well underway in its 15th season. The team is led by Brandon MacLaren and mentored by Seth Lightfoot, Carrington Hong, Noah Schroeder, Mark Kleckler, Scott Hill, and Karen Hill.
This season’s theme is Destination: Deep Space. The game consists of two rockets and a cargo bay, each with six holes to collect orange balls from the teams’ robots. Teams will attach discs to the rockets to prevent the orange balls from falling out, and then insert the orange balls. For fifteen seconds at the beginning of each match, the teams will be blinded temporarily and need to maneuver the robot with automated code, or a camera. For the end of the game, robots will need to climb raised platforms. Teams can earn more points depending on how high the platform is.
Students have 11 days left to build their robot, and get ready for the first competition, which is March 21 thru 23 in Iowa. Before the first competition, there will be an Open House on Feb. 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. The open house is a chance for people to tour the shop and check out all of the hard work the students have put into the robot. The Shop address is 110 N. Pecatonica St., Winnebago.
