This is the site of the proposed Fred Machesney Memorial, once a local airport run by Machesney, who is the person the village is named after.

Progress is being made on the proposed “Fred Machesney Memorial” to be placed in a front lot of the old Machesney Park Mall on N. Second Street.

A dedicated group of historical representatives is and has been busy on getting everything created and lined up to bring in funding for this proposal.

Historically-minded village resident, Stephen Quest, committee secretary and treasurer, has been heading up the memorial committee and notes, “Things have been moving fast and we’ve accomplished a lot in a mere seven weeks.

“We have a long road ahead of us but I have complete confidence that together, we will bring this project to fruition in the minimum amount of time possible. “Things need to be stepped out one thing at a time… and I have and will continue to provide full transparency.”

Quest explained for the group that incorporation is first on the agenda and an EIN (not-for-profit) is being applied for, noting, “The full name of the corporation will be ‘Fred Machesney Memorial Monument Fund, Inc’ with donations to be made payable to: “Machesney Memorial Monument” and mailed to Machesney Memorial Monument, P.O. Box 2292, Loves Park, IL 61131.

A GoFundMe is also in the process of being established at the bank, and Quest explained that the “new corporation will be designated to receive fund transfers that will be reflected on the GoFundMe page.”
