YAH Parade winners announced

LOVES PARK – At the June 6 Loves Park City Council meeting, Mayor Darryl Lindberg announced and presented awards to this year’s Young at Heart parade winners.
Winners are:
Best Commercial Unit – Practice Velocity; Best Commmunity Service Unit – Clifford E. Johnson VFW Post No. 9759; Best Youth Group (two winners) – Harlem Dance Team, and Loves Park Cub Scout Pack No. 206; Mayor’s Choice Award – “Pink Heals,” Winnebago County Chapter; Best Theme Entry – “Honor and Respect the Uniform,” Karsten Kiddie Kare; and Parade Committee Choice – Rockford Odd Fellows and Rebekahs.
The Back Yard Bar & Grill, Bar Float Contest award winners: $50 gift certificate to Rock Valley Credit Union (commercial), and to Concordia Lutheran Church (non-profit).
Alderman Clint Little gave two police activity reports and two fire department reports. The first police activity report covered the week of May 22-28, in which 606 calls for service, 221 arrests, and 11 accidents were reported. For the week of May 29-June 4, a total of 520 calls for service, 207 arrests, and 19 accidents were logged.
On the fire department report for May 29, one fire call, one false fire alarm call, one carbon monoxide or gas leak call, four wires down calls, and one natural gas leak call were reported. On the June 5 report, one assist police, one wires down call, and two public service calls were reported. Firefighters put in a total of 945.55 man-hours on the Young at Heart Festival and Parade.
No water department or general fund bills were voted on for payment as the council had cared for them at the May 23 meeting.
Police Officer Austin Allton turned in his resignation effective June 21, as he is moving out of state.
A motion was approved with certain specifications for a special event permit from Las Pinatas Food Truck to have a food truck in the back parking lot of Top Cut Comics, 5600 N. Second St. on Fridays from 5-9 p.m. starting June 10 to the end of September.
Conditions are: documentation showing county health department approval; no signage on adjacent streets; food truck to be located at the “back inside corner” of the parking lot; and the business owner, Henry Pesina, needs to obtain a City of Loves Park business permit.
A resolution was okayed authorizing the city’s treasurer to pay the Illinois Municipal League for conference and hotel reservations for city officials to attend the 2016 IML Conference in Chicago from Sept.22-24.
A supplemental Motor Fuel Tax Fund (MFT) appropriation for engineering for the Riverside Bridge replacement project at Wants Park was approved at a cost of $22,200.
A resolution extending a contract one year for tree removal service by Harwick Tree Removal of Machesney Park at $130 an hour from May 1 to May 1, 2017, was passed.
A resolution authorizing Arc Design of Loves Park, at a cost not to exceed $79.820, for an engineering agreement for the 2016 Road Maintenance Program was approved.
An engineering agreement for a floodplain study (with FEMA floodplain maps) with Hanson Professional Services of Rockford, at a cost not to exceed $12,940 was okayed.
Two ordinances, first and second readings, were passed:
–one “ascertaining the prevailing rate of wages for construction of public works” within the city, and the other adopting regulations for development within floodplain areas.
