Youth bird program comes to local library
BELVIDERE – Join University of Illinois Extension Youth Educator Lisa Hepker on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 4 p.m. at the Ida Public Library in Belvidere for It’s all about the BIRDS…no kidding!
Participants will learn about the winter birds we see in Illinois, try out coolest bird application for your tablet or smartphone, go on an indoor bird walk, explore the songs of birds, and create a winter bird feeder to take home.
The kids will also learn how to become a real citizen scientist and discover how they can be a part of a fun event called The Great Backyard Bird Count on Feb. 12 through Feb. 15. There is no fee for this program.
Then save the date for Wild SCIENCE Wednesday at the Ida Public Library on Feb. 24 at 4 p.m. Participants will be challenged to engineer a marshmallow mini-catapult.
This hands-on experiment will explore the scientific principles of force and motion. Which engineer will launch the marshmallow the farthest and who will land closest to the target?
